Kindergarten Pictures

As I clicked on Rachel's blog to add her school pictures it dawned on me that I might want to go back and do a first day of school post. She started kindergarten- that's a big life event that should be documented so I'll go back and do that just not now as we have swim lessons this morning.  So for now on to her cuteness.

D&C 35:17

Rachel was asked to say the opening prayer and read the scripture Doctrine and Covenants 35:17 today during primary. She did an excellent job! I was most impressed that she read almost all the words (she needed help with fulness, gospel, servant, weakness). I think this fall with the beginning of school we might need to start having her read an actual scripture verse in addition to listening to the scripture stories.

Counting by 10's

2 weeks ago Rachel walked into our room sometime shortly after 7am and woke us up (yes our girls actually let us sleep pass 7 now a days) all excited because she could count by 10 and demonstrated.  10, 20...30.....(thinking really hard)......40! See I did it I can count by 10! As she's jumping up in down in excitement. Mike and I said very good and asked if she could keep going? So she started back at 10 and made it all the way to 100!

It's funny how it's quite obvious when things click and they get it because it really does work that way where they just wake up and all those months of teaching all make sense and they know there colors, abc or how to count to 10.

Not in that world

Yesterday the girls were playing and Rachel's doll asked Ashley's doll if she'd like a cup of coffee. I piped in and said, "We don't drink coffee"
"Well this is the good kind not the bad kind."
"All coffee is bad. Heavenly Father has told us not to drink it."
"Well we're not in Heavenly Father's world.  (pause to think)  We're in Satan's." she turns back to Ashley to play, "Would you like some coffee?"

Yikes!  And we aren't even around many coffee drinkers.

New, New Haircut

So apparently we forgot to post this here...

Well, Rachel has noticed her hair falling out over the last few weeks. On Thursday she and Shelly were discussing it and Shelly told her that she still wasn't all bald and that she still had a small knot of hair on the top of her head. Rachel decided that that was unacceptable and wanted to cut it off. So naturally we discussed it a bit more and decided to throw a head shaving party. We had a number of people show up - friends from Shelly's Mom's Club, Rachel's teachers from church, and a few other good friends. In all, we had 9 shaved heads by the end of the night-check out the gallery for some more pictures from the night.

We also had a few folks who either were out of town or unable to make it who shaved their heads and sent us pictures. If you want to join in the fun, send us your pic to include on the blog. (We're at 21 bald heads and counting!)

New Haircut

Her hair is thinning out to the point of using a lint roller to clean off her pillow but we're not sure if she'll loose it all or just be patchy. She hesitated for a couple days if she wanted to cut it or not and then finally went for it.

boo commercials

We don't have cable so during the week if the girls want to watch tv they get PBS which is pretty much commercial free. It's 100% non-toy commercials. So I was surprised on Wednesday when Rachel asked to play on my Kindle and I told her no because I wanted her to go play and she could use the Kindle at the doctors on Friday. (I'm also trying to keep the games on there new and interesting.) She turns to me and says, "Well, the tv says there's a new ipad for kids. So I can get my own!"

Well it took 4 1/2 years for Rachel to be influenced by a commercial. Not bad if I do say so myself.
