Rachel is such a good helper and I know she won't always want to help so I'm taking advantage now. She helps unload the dishwasher taking the pots and pans out and putting them into the cupboard, handing me the forks and spoons (after I've removed all the knives), handing me the plates and cups (if I can't get to them first). The first time she helped she took out a plate, my heart raced and in my mind it was already broken, but instead she handed it up to me without incident.
Rachel also is my official mixer. It started when she brought me one of her Jiffy boxes she had stacked, pointed at the muffin on it and went "mmmm". I said okay, let's go make 'em. I cracked the egg, poured the milk and got the egg most of the way beaten, added the mix and set it down on the floor. I let Rachel hold the wooden spoon and showed her how to mix. Our method is "slow, slow, fast, fast, fast" and repeat. So anytime there's mixing to be done, we do it together.
Last night she even crushed my crackers I needed for dinner.
This morning I brought Rachel to my room because my bed was way to comfy to leave and she flipped through "Parents" magazine and found a picture of a little girl mixing. I've created a mixing monster. She jumped off the bed, pointed to the kitchen and says "mix" in her cute not quite correct of saying it. I tried persuading her not now and I lost. I set her in the high chair with a mixing bowl and spatula. I added water and poppy seeds for to mix until her waffles were ready.
But the waffles caused another problem because she wanted to put the waffles in the toaster, so I brought the toaster over to her and allowed her to put the waffles in, then she happily went back to mixing "slow, slow, fast, fast, fast"

Joy loves helping with the dishwasher, too. :)
And yes, there is normalcy with two kids. Life often feels like a hectic balancing act, but it isn't as crazy as I thought it would be.
That is so funny! I'm impressed she doesn't slosh the stuff all over the kitchen. :)
She's a little betty crocker! Cute!!!!
