I called her into the kitchen. Expecting her to deny eating them I prefaced the question with please tell me the truth you wont get in trouble how many cupcakes did you eat (at the time I hadn't taken count) she said 4, I thought are you kidding this is when I counted. Thank you for telling me the truth because you told me the truth you don't have to sit in time out for lying but you did eat them when you knew you weren't supposed to.
I decide to take this time to talk to her about her conscience. The conversation follows:M- Rachel did you hear a little voice telling you not to eat them, that it was wrong?
R- I didn't hear any voice (cupping her ear)
M- No you wouldn't hear it with your ears but you'd have that type of thought in your mind.
R- Oh yeah, I disobeyed it. (enthusiastically with a shrug)
Trying not to laugh I continued to explain how that voice is trying to keep her from trouble and she should listen to it for now on.

oh yes! We still have that..."Please tell me the truth and if you do, then you won't get in as much trouble" talks. So hard! I don't think they quite get it yet.
