Dr.'s not concerned with Rachel's ability to thrive because she still has lots of baby fat, but we can certainly feed her whatever she wants all day long. Dr. also says I should probably supplement at meal time with formula. I asked her why babies can start on all other dairy except whole milk she said because whole milk doesn't have enough vitamins.
I'm looking for opinions on whether to just start her on whole milk anyway and keep nursing so she does get her vitamins. Which she eats 2 size 2 jars of vegetables and fruit everyday plus cereal or she'll eat 2 fruits and a size 3 jar of meat and veggies and cereal. Isn't that enough vitamins? What else does she need? She's always been healthy she's only had one small cold since she was born and all I needed was a humidifier in her room for a week. Has anyone else started their child on milk early?

I couldnt' start Kason on milk early because he was allergic (little did I even know about that one!) I found out at 6 months, when I went in and said his bowels were still too hard for a newbaby like that, plus he had eczema behind his knees, which is when they figured out that he was allergic to the dairy, which he was getting from nursing. And because I didnt' know any better either, I found out that cows milk is in Formula! I didn't know that, so with his allergy, I couldn't even just put him on any formula...of course it had to be the one that was the most expensive...and with my boy an eater, it got really expensive. Anyway, moral of the story....I'm sure Rachel would be just fine, because I probably would have done the same thing with Makaya...but after my whole ordeal with Kason not being able to digest cows milk that well...I would say hold off. eeeh, I'm not much help!! I'm sure your other friends and family will have better advice :) good luck! :)
I know that if you start to early they can develop an allergy or lactose intolerance for milk, I would just wait out the 3 months, but I am not sure why it is OK at 12 and not 9.
At 11 months I started giving both of my kids whole milk. Since they were both formula kids and at that time they were at 8oz I started week by week substituting 2oz at a time milk for formula so by their 1 year birthday they were on milk totally. I also put rice cereal in their bottles as well. This way too switching from formula to milk wasen't a shock to them. Chloe was fussy about it but Mason didn't notice the difference.
